NEW YORK, February 23, 2026 — Novele has completed the Resilient Energy Studio, a program led by the New York City Economic Development Corporation in partnership with Newlab, the New York City Department of Buildings and the Fire Department of New York, which placed the company in direct working contact with both agencies on the rules governing indoor energy storage.
The Studio ran from August 2025 through its final session in February 2026. It was built to do two things at once. Each participating company advanced a designated real project in the city with hands-on permitting and regulatory support. In parallel, what those agency conversations surfaced was documented and returned to the policy process, so the lessons inform regulatory reform rather than staying inside one company. Novele was one of five companies selected for the cohort.
New York City applies some of the strictest energy storage requirements in the country, tighter still for systems installed indoors. Filing into that process from outside risks returning answers one review cycle at a time. Eight months of working sessions provided something different: a deep understanding of the questions the agencies need answered, which shapes how a submission is built before it is written.
Novele's work in the program centered on deploying EnergyBoard at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. New York's dense commercial building stock leaves little exterior space for conventional outdoor battery cabinets, and Local Law 97 continues to raise the pressure on owners to electrify and cut emissions. A building with no available yard and a compliance deadline needs a system it can install indoors.
