NEW YORK, December 15, 2025 — Novele today announced the deployment of its indoor EnergyBoard platform across six big-box retail locations in California, in partnership with a Fortune 50 retailer.
Retail portfolios have been difficult to serve with conventional energy storage for a structural reason. Stores are not standardized. Layouts, electrical rooms, service capacity and available space differ from site to site, and an outdoor battery cabinet requires exterior space that many locations simply do not have. A solution that works at one store frequently does not transfer to the next, which is why portfolio-scale storage is only now emerging as a viable option for commercial buildings.
EnergyBoard is designed around that constraint. The system is wall-mounted indoors and modular, so it can be configured to different store designs and layouts without major renovation. The same product adapts to each site.
That is what makes six locations meaningful beyond their own load. The retailer's portfolio spans more than 1,700 stores, and scaling storage across a footprint that size depends on a configuration that repeats from store to store.
Portfolio scale is where the software matters most. Each store has its own load shape and tariff, so the analysis is run per site rather than from a portfolio average, and BoardOS operates the installed units against each building's own demand while reporting results from a single store up to the whole footprint.
Hundreds of stores built to similar designs, running on different tariffs in different markets, is the clearest case for intelligence that spans a portfolio. Each store teaches the models something about the next.
