NEW YORK, September 17, 2024 — Novele today announced the first field deployment of EnergyBoard, its intelligent, indoor battery energy storage system, at the Spellman High Voltage Power Electronics Laboratory at Stony Brook University. The installation begins a pilot program sponsored by the Center for Integrated Electric Energy Systems (CIEES), a New York State Center for Advanced Technology designated by NYSTAR.
Commercial battery storage has historically been an outdoor product. Containerized systems and battery cabinets are sited in parking lots, on pads, or in dedicated enclosures, which puts storage out of reach for a large share of urban commercial buildings with no available exterior footprint. EnergyBoard is designed to be wall-mounted inside occupied buildings, using a modular form factor that scales by adding units rather than by expanding a single enclosure.
The Spellman Laboratory, located in Stony Brook University's Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center, studies power electronics and grid integration, including work on a campus test microgrid. The facility gives Novele an instrumented environment in which EnergyBoard's behavior can be measured against research-grade equipment rather than inferred from a commercial site.
The pilot supports CIEES's mandate to move new energy technologies from research into commercial deployment in partnership with industry, drawing on the combined resources of Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory.
